The Western Australian Association of the Deaf (WAAD) is excited to launch this project which started over 22 years ago!
Long ago, WA Deaf community established a WA Deaf Film Club and produced six movies. The movies have since then been converted from 8mm film reels to digital files.
It has been a long journey to navigate through legislation and jurisdictions, ensuring that the process was done correctly and the films are to be in the public sphere for years to come.
A private screening was held on Sunday 20th June 2021 at the Social Studies Lecture Theatre, University of Western Australia. The actors and the film crew along with their guests were in attendance to view two films for the first time in a very long time! Murder for Nothing and The Treasure Island were screened.
The six movies produced by the WA Deaf Film Club are:
Murder for Nothing
The Treasure Island
The East Side Story
The Police Story
Class of 75
Runaway
There are many other films that the WA Deaf Film Club recorded, which are footage of community events, sporting events, tours & trips etc. This is the next stage of the project, which is to convert all the reels into digital files. Watch this space!
